THC is the primary cannabinoid responsible for the psychoactive effects associated with cannabis. The amount of THC in a product can vary widely based on the method of consumption and the strain at the source of that product. The high that is produced is often enhanced by the “entourage effect” which is a combination of multiple cannabinoids in conjunction with various terpenes and individual body chemistry.

Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in cannabis that contribute to each strain's unique flavor and aroma. Total terpenes represents the combined concentration of all terpene compounds detected in the product, which may influence the overall experience through the entourage effect.

In 1965 the Oxford English Dictionary took in Acapulco Gold as a special grade of cannabis grown near Acapulco. The original was a Mexican landrace from the hills of Guerrero above that Pacific coast, first seen in the United States around 1964. Smuggler Gary Tovar credited its gold-and-amber color to plants aged and dried in the wind off the ocean.

The note people remember is burnt toffee, with honey, chestnut, and coffee as its most-reported flavors and a peppery, citrus edge underneath. Its effect is most often described as energizing, focused, and creative.

It was so prized that the name was soon used for almost any good Mexican cannabis, and a 1967 single named for it reached the Billboard Hot 100 before it was pulled. Florette carries it in The Legends, its line of legendary cannabis flower.
