Blue Dream came out of the hills around Santa Cruz, California, around 2003, when DJ Short's Blueberry was crossed with a Haze and the result ran the West Coast for most of the next decade. Blue Dream Queen takes its name from that plant.
Sweet blueberry sits on top, with the Haze side coming through underneath as sandalwood and a touch of pepper. Most accounts have it as a balanced experience: a clear, creative lift up top and an easy, relaxed body, and people tend to find it more energizing than heavy.
By the early 2010s one veteran grower was calling Blue Dream the most popular strain on the planet, helped by a plant that was easy to grow and gave moderate to high yields. It became a breeding workhorse too: seed databases list more than 280 direct descendants, from Blue Magic to Sensi Seeds' Atomic Blue Dream. Leafly still counts it among the most-searched strains in its database.
